Position Overview

The Vice President of Workplace Giving (VP) will spearhead the corporate and business relationship management of the fundraising campaign. As the United Way of Southwestern PA continues to grow the commitment and revenue from valued long-term partners and newly established relationships, the VP is a critical position in the overall fundraising strategy. 

Reporting to and in partnership with the Senior Vice President of Community Giving & Fundraising, the VP will supervise and manage six Corporate Relations Managers, with a fundraising goal of nearly $30 million per year. 

The Vice President leads the organization’s strategic workplace giving strategies to maximize the talent of staff and the sustainable growth of the yearly campaign.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development and Sales Leadership

  • Exercise enthusiastic and demonstrated sales leadership to build and lead a diverse team by providing superior coaching, mentoring, and relationship building skills.
  • Partnership Development
  • Build strong partnerships and leverage relationships with business leaders and CEOs in the community.
  • Serve as the primary United Way staff partner to a portfolio of select, high-profile companies and organizations. Collaboratively plan and execute their annual workplace campaigns to achieve revenue goals.
  • Lead the New Business recruitment strategy, identifying prospects and securing new relationships with area companies annually.

Staff and Program Management

  • Supervise Corporate Relations team to manage campaign accounts by setting and executing strategic plans for corporate partners and by using data analysis to drive metrics and best practices. Plans should include relationship development, year-long employee engagement, and connecting corporations to United Way key initiatives.
  • Direct, manage, and motivate Corporate Relations Managers.
  • Serve as the liaison between Workplace Campaign, Labor, processing, and customer service.

Program Evaluation

  • Establish performance measures, monitor results, and produce evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of the annual Workplace Campaign.
  • Keep Sr. Vice President of Campaign informed of current workplace trends, issues, problems, and activities in order to accurately project annual campaign fundraising results.

Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, motivate, and manage key workplace campaign volunteers.

Performance Objectives

The VP will be expected to deliver outstanding outcomes while successfully addressing the following in the first six months in the position:

  • Immerse and integrate into the mission and programs of the United Way, understanding the ethos, activity, and expectations of the organization.
  • Provide input and fully implement the Workplace Campaign Development Plan.
  • Embrace the talented staff of managers and build healthy and respectful relationships with the team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The VP will lead with an appreciation of the enormous responsibility the organization has in serving vulnerable populations of the community. The successful candidate will have proven experience raising money for organizations through cultivation and direct asks for support and understand the complex nature of nonprofits and diverse funding streams. 

  • Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
  • Able to develop passion about the mission of the United Way and the community served.
  • Personal communication skills for effective face-to-face cultivation of donors and written communication skills necessary to compel individuals and organizations to financially support the United Way.  
  • Responsive to the needs of others including colleagues, community partners, donors, and all related constituents.
  • Previous supervision and evaluation of staff is required.
  • A combination of sales, business development, and/or fundraising is required.
  • Past success working with regional community leaders with the ability to cultivate relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in consistently meeting/exceeding established goals and expectations.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently (as well as in a team), and manage a wide variety of responsibilities.
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills
  • Working style that is transparent, encouraging, and collaborative.
